The Five Beaches You Cannot Miss On Your Next Andaman Nicobar Trip
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands have some of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. Serene, peaceful and stunning, one will forever be mesmerised by the white-sand beaches that these paradisiacal islands offer. Here’s a pick of the top five you must go to:
Radhanagar Beach
Lying on the southern coast of Havelock Island, Radhanagar Beach is straight out of a picture post card. Lying in the shade of a forest, the beach is washed by the turquoise waters. Feel the powdery white sands on your bare feet, or go snorkelling and diving in the blue waters. Havelock also contains many other pretty beaches that can find a place in any Andamans honeymoon package. Havelock Island is connected to Port Blair by helicopter service, regular ferry and a luxury catamaran.
Kalapathar Beach
Catch the scintillating sunrise over the Bay of Bengal at Kalapathar Beach of Havelock Island. Screened off by a thick forest, the beach is a perfect destination for those who love solitude. Not on the regular tourist circuit yet, the Kalapathar beach is about 12km from the jetty in Havelock Island.
Bharatpur Beach
Neil Island of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands is bordered by beautiful white sand beaches which have been named after the characters from the Ramayana. The beaches of Neil too can be part of any Andaman honeymoon package. Lying nearest to the jetty is the Bharatpur beach. One of the best beaches where you can indulge in long walks or go swimming. Book a seat in a glass bottom boat to observe the underwater fauna through the crystal clear sea. Colourful fishes playing through an amazing spread of corals and marine flora is a sight you will not forget in a hurry. If you are a solitude seeker, then aim for the Lakshamnpur beach, about two kilometres from the jetty at Neil Island. It is also the gateway to some beautiful natural rock formations, including one called Howrah Bridge.
Lamiya Beach
Not often a part of Andaman Nicobar trip, Diglipur, about 12 hours’ drive from Port Blair, is home to Saddle Peak, the highest point in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Lying along its foothills is the picturesque yet solitary Lamiya Bay beach. You may also reach Diglipur by boat from Port Blair and Mayabunder.
North Bay Beach
North Bay beach of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands rose to fame when the rupees twenty Indian currency note sported a picture of the lighthouse seen here. Its proximity to Port Blair has made it popular with travellers with limited time in hand. Ferry services from Aberdeen Bazar in Port Blair take passengers to North Bay and back in three hours. Apart from its beach, the North Bay is known for its rich coral and marine life. You may go snorkelling here.
